So, back from Illinois and back to the cloth diapering dilemma.. which wasn't really much of a dilemma at all in the end. Now that we live in a place with our own washer and dryer, I'd love to use cloth diapers on baby D but I know that prefolds and covers don't work for us. He's just growing too quickly, so we'd have to keep buying tons of supplies that we wouldn't be able to use for very long and that seems wasteful. Besides, the mister wouldn't have the patience to fiddle with the diaper pins or snappies, so we're ruling it out. We did try it a few times, though.
After that, I decided to check out AIOs which stands for All In Ones, and these things are as convenient and easy to use as disposables, except they're much more cushy, reusable and don't sit in a landfill for 500 years or whatever the figure is.. We bought one each of a couple of different kinds to compare quality, easy of use, easy of laundering etc and while I did like BumGenius 3.0...
They also have the added bonus of fitting a baby from birth to potty training. This is fab, because it means you can't buy the wrong size and they're ultimately adjustable through the leg and waist elastic and the snap fasteners. I have just one of these, and I'm trying to work out how many I'd need to have a full set, because soft + reusable+ savings = awesome though buying a dozen plus of these in one go would really sting financially. The initial outlay is the only really crappy part of cloth diapering, and I know that with G 5 years ago, I discarded the idea entirely because we didn't have our own washing machine and I knew we couldn't afford the startup cost or to get a diaper service.
